After purchasing my new 24″ IMAC from apple Saturday I decided now was the perfect time to upgrade my workspace overall and ditch my bulk Desktop Test Machine that was used in order to test cross browser compatibility on windows based browsers.

My search started at the Sarasota Best Buy on Bee Ridge Rd where I went to purchase a copy of windows XP and VMWare fusion, so i can run windows on my mac side-by-side. There was a problem though, they did not have copies of XP, and there was no way I was going to use 7 or vista.

So I went online searching for a local place to pick up a copy, I called around to about 5 places and only one place had a copy.

Discount Computers Inc had a copy and dealing with them was an amazing experience. From the first phone call, till I walked out the door as a happy customer, they were a more than pleasant experience offering exceptional service and intelligent advice. On top of this they saved me money.

How? I had just purchased a copy of WIN XP Home edition and I was on my way to another store to pick up a copy of VMWare fusion so I could run the two operating systems side by side. If you were wondering why I’m not just using the free boot camp that comes with the max os, boot camp doesn’t support running them side by side, it only supports running them one at a time.

During my visit i explained what I was doing with the OS and why, and that I was a Small Business Owner only a few miles from his location and that we did web development, we spoke about the different technologies and I explained to him we are big advocates of Open Source Projects (wordpress, code igniter, etc…) .

The owner mentioned to me that there was an open source version of VMWare that he had used many times called Virtual Box, we sat down in his spacious computer show room on his comfortable computer chairs and pulled the Virtual Box website up to see if it was compatible with my new IMAC. It was!

I was very happy that I found an amazing solution to my problem, got a copy of the software I needed and saved $80 and a trip across town.
